What are brass breather vents (protective vents)?+

Screw-in brass vent plugs with a microporous ePTFE membrane and O-ring seal. They equalize pressure inside sealed enclosures while blocking water, dust and contaminants — rated IP67/IP68.

Why does a sealed enclosure need a vent?+

Heating and cooling cycles make trapped air expand and contract, creating pressure differentials that stress housing seals — and a cooling enclosure can suck liquids in through its seals. A vent equalizes pressure continuously while its membrane blocks water and dust, and lets trapped water vapour escape to reduce condensation.

What IP ratings do your brass vent plugs offer?+

IP67 and IP68 options, with the test condition (immersion depth and duration) stated on the datasheet. IP69K is available on select types for high-pressure washdown duty.

What thread sizes are available?+

Metric M6 to M16 as standard, with PG, NPT and BSP threads and fully custom threads made to your drawing.

Membrane vent or sintered-bronze breather — which do I need?+

Choose a membrane vent for waterproof IP67/IP68 enclosure protection — LED housings, outdoor cabinets, automotive electronics. Choose a sintered-bronze breather for gearboxes, hydraulic reservoirs and pneumatic systems, where the job is filtration (typically 40 micron) rather than waterproofing. We manufacture both lines separately.

How many vents does one enclosure need?+

It depends on enclosure volume, temperature swing and how fast pressure must equalize. Small housings usually need one vent; large cabinets may need two or more. Share your enclosure volume and we will size the vent count and airflow.
